Insights

Aviation History

The Boeing 747-400 is an icon of long-haul travel and was the backbone of many international fleets including Lufthansa\'s for decades. It\'s the most produced 747 variant and revolutionized air travel globally.

Fleet Rarity

Lufthansa is one of the last major airlines to operate the 747-400, making it increasingly rare in regular passenger service.

Record Flights

The 747-400 was used on some of the world\'s longest nonstop routes, e.g., New York to Hong Kong, Frankfurt to Buenos Aires. Lufthansa used it on heavy intercontinental routes.

Safety & Events

The 747-400 has a strong safety record. Notable Lufthansa 747-400s have performed inaugural and retirement flights, and a few have appeared in special liveries.

Future Outlook

Most 747-400s are being retired or converted to cargo; Lufthansa still operates a handful in 2024, but phaseout is imminent.
